Rikhado Muziwendlovu Makhado, better known by his stage name Riky Rick, was a rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, and businessman from South Africa.

He grew up in the KwaMashu community in Natal, not far from Durban. Even at a young age, his childhood pals regarded him as a creative person who was friendly, enterprising, and artistically inclined.

The “queen of Afropop” Brenda Fassie’s son Bongani Fassie actually recorded a song with Makhado, which marked the beginning of his musical career. Makhado got his inspiration to compose songs from Fassie’s side. He released his debut single, “Barbershop,” featuring Da L.E.S at that time.




Along with being a member of Boyz N Bucks, he founded and owned the record label Cotton Club Records. He is best known for the popular song Boss Zonke from his album Family Values.

Between 2009 and 2010, he released mixtapes like The Comeback Kid and Last Summer with Da L.E.S., which catapulted him into the spotlight.

At the age of 34, Makhado passed away in Johannesburg on February 23, 2022. After a long battle with depression, the cause of death was given as hanging suicide.

Nel co-starred with South African singer-songwriter and comedian Robbie Wessels in the Afrikaans film ‘n Saak van Geloof.
